Richard L. Jackson, Chief Executive Officer Jackson Healthcare

Rick Jackson, CEOOver the past 30 years Richard L. ("Rick") Jackson has been instrumental in conceptualizing and developing more than 25 healthcare-related companies. Beginning in 1978 with the founding of Jackson & Coker (J&C), he has demonstrated a profound understanding of the relationship between physicians and business that has enabled him to create successful companies that contribute to the hospital's profitability, quality of care and operational effectiveness.

Over the years at least 10 of his companies have ranked number-one in market share in their industries. For example, within its first decade in business, Jackson & Coker became the nation's largest physician search firm and its seventh-largest executive search company.

Jackson pioneered the concept of anesthesia contract services in 1988. While developing that company into the nation's largest multi-site anesthesia group and taking it public (in 1992), he began launching other healthcare-related businesses. He sold Premier Anesthesia in 1996. In 2002 he restarted the company to focus on helping hospitals gain strategic control of their anesthesia services.

Over the next decade Jackson's healthcare-related businesses included the first chain of outpatient pain relief centers, the nation's largest multi-site allergy provider, the third-largest outpatient surgery center company, a surgical software company and a locum tenens recruitment agency. The last two entities (which became Surgical Information Systems and LocumTenens.com) formed the foundation of Jackson Healthcare (JH), established in 2000.

Currently Jackson is chief executive officer of Jackson Healthcare, which ranked ninth on Staffing Industry Analysts' list of "Top U.S. Healthcare Staffing Providers," May 31, 2007. JH was included in Entrepreneur magazine's 2007 list of the "Hot 500" U.S. entrepreneurial companies. The company also was named to the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing private U.S. companies in 2004 – and to the Inc. 5000 in 2007 as one of the top 100 healthcare companies.

In both 2006 and 2007, Jackson was a southeast regional finalist for Ernst and Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award. JH has been included for the last three years on Atlanta Business Chronicle's list of "Pacesetters," or Atlanta's fastest-growing private companies, ranking number 7 on that list in 2007. In 2005 and 2007 Atlanta Business Chronicle named Jackson Healthcare to its annual list of "Atlanta's Best Employers" based on an independent employee survey.

Richard Ballard, President & COO

Richard Ballard, President & COORich entered the healthcare market in 1975, when he joined a start-up company dedicated to staffing hospital emergency departments. Since then, Rich has dedicated his career to developing, initiating and expanding healthcare organizations. His accomplishments include the growth and diversification of Jackson & Coker, which grew to be the largest physician search firm in the nation.

Rich served as Chief Executive Officer of Premier Anesthesia, and orchestrated its Initial Public Offering in 1992. Rich also served as Chief Executive Officer of Physicians' Specialty Corp., a national physician practice management company dedicated to the Otolaryngology (ENT) specialty. In his capacity with PSC, Rich completed an Initial Public Offering in 1997, a secondary offering in 1998 and a privatization of the firm in 1999.

Rich re-joined Premier Anesthesia as President and Chief Operating Officer in October 2004, bringing with him thirty years experience in the contract services and practice management field.

Norb Hummel, Executive Vice President

During Norb's 25 years in healthcare, he has formed many highly successful practice groups and served in multi-site hospital administration With a strong background in banking and finance, Norb has worked with both physicians and administrators to increase profitability and optimize the business side of medical practices. He has nearly 10 years of experience solely in anesthesia management.

Norb directs operational services for all Premier sites and provides ongoing guidance and oversight regarding financial performance, operations and staffing.

Jerry H. Titel, MD, MBA, National Medical Director

Dr. Titel is a board certified anesthesiologist, trained at the University of Chicago, with many years of clinical and managerial experience in various hospital settings. His professional career has also included research (several peer reviewed papers have been published), teaching (medical students, anesthesia residents, and CRNA students), and departmental development and management. He obtained a MBA degree, with honors, from Pepperdine University in 1988. His varied experiences and training have given him a unique insight into anesthesia department development and management, all of which he brings to Premier Anesthesia.

Dr. Titel's enthusiasm for the Premier Model goes back to 1991 when he was director of Premier's then largest practice. He believes that freeing up an anesthesia team from management and business related duties will further its ability to better provide anesthesia services for surgeons and their patients. He considers the provision of anesthesia as an awesome responsibility and continues to devote his professional career to this specialty, now through Premier Anesthesia.

Bill Glassford, Vice President of Operations

With nearly 20 years in healthcare, and experience in both marketing and management, Bill's background includes serving as Director of Recruiting and Vice President of Operations for Premier Anesthesia in the early nineties, and as the Executive Director of a large Cardiology and Internal Medicine group. Bill has returned to Premier as Vice President of Operations and applies his knowledge and skills to provide our hospital partners and practices with vision, leadership and dedication in anesthesia management.

Bill is further dedicated to the area of Interventional Pain Management, working with hospitals and other physician specialties to create a multi-disciplinary approach, ensuring the highest level of care with a minimally invasive approach for patients in need of Chronic Pain Therapy. 

Ron McDaniel, Vice President of Development

A former administrator of a multi-site hospital system, Ron has served on the Board of Directors of two publicly traded companies and held executive positions with both public and private companies. He has participated in a successful IPO and several mergers. In addition, Ron has negotiated acquisitions of healthcare companies, including medical and dental practices. Ron is responsible for Premier's new business development and manages contracts as well as initial new client analysis via the Anesthesia Assessment Questionnaire.

Charles Payette, Director of Recruiting

With 16 years of healthcare recruiting experience, Charles is responsible for all permanent and locum tenens recruitment as well as contract negotiations. His diverse background also includes insurance, negotiations and healthcare marketing. He developed the start-up sales and marketing program for a leading worldwide insurance company and has served as general manager for the nation's largest sports risk insurer.

Charles is also a nationally certified mediator, noted motivational public speaker and author of two best-selling tapes on organization building strategies.

Barbara Sobol, Operations Coordinator

Barbara manages all staffing calendars for every Premier site, maintains current contracts on all locum tenens staff and coordinates staffing. In addition, she tracks the status of all Premier team members' credentials and privileges and manages provider enrollment in third-party payer plans.

Sarah Sutherland, Locum Tenens Recruiter

Sarah manages locum tenens recruiting and the staffing calendar for all Premier Anesthesia sites. She coordinates the credentialing, COI and travel for each provider. Sarah maintains relationships with key contacts at each client location to determine staffing needs and ensure an optimal work environment among locum tenens and permanent staff. She manages a master database of all candidates for Premier sites.

Nina K. Altman, CPA, Controller

Nina directs accounting functions and preparation of financial reports for all Premier Anesthesia contracts. She works closely with the executive team to analyze potential and current contracts to ensure economic feasibility and profitability for all clients. Nina has over 20 years of experience in accounting and finance with expertise in reporting and analysis, budget and forecast preparation, variance analysis and account reconciliations. Nina has her CPA certification and a BBA in Accounting. She is a member of the Georgia Society of CPA’s and the American Institute of CPA’s. She also holds a current real estate license for the State of Georgia

Brock Ballard, Recruiter

Brock began his career as a physician recruiter over 16 years ago with Harris, Kovacs and Alderman. Brock joined Premier in the early Nineties recruiting full-time Anesthesiologist and Anesthetists. Since that time, Brock's background has included marketing and public relations for a variety of technology companies, most recently serving at Director of Marketing for Colorgraphic, a manufacturer of computer peripherals. Brock has rejoined Premier with responsibility for permanent, full-time staffing of Anesthesiologists and CRNAs for all Premier practices.
